How podcasts have changed my life

In the December of 2020, my wife and I found ourselves in the middle of the lockdown with a newborn. I started running and exercising to feel normal. Podcasts are how I entertained myself when I ran alone on the roads with a mask on. The starting point for me was this episode of the Seen and the Unseen about the Travancore Kingdom. I was always interested in history and I was hooked. I binged on the Seen and the Unseen and started understanding economics more. I also found other interesting podcasts after hearing references to them on the Seen and the Unseen. Since then I have explored a wide array of topics such as personal finance, business, software engineering, science, comedy and popular culture. I have also graduated to podcast style youtube shows such as the Everthing is Everything. If I had to choose one show to listen to for the rest of my life, this would be it.

Podcasts have replaced books to a large extent for me. Now I buy books only if I am interested in them after listening about them on a podcast. This works better than recommendations from friends and colleagues because I don’t just buy them based on thin desires.
