Price as a proxy for quality

In 2019, I moved into a new home. After furnishing it, I wanted to buy a TV. I researched online and came to the conclusion that all TV panels are more or less the same and one should buy the cheapest TV possible. So I bought a 55 inch VU for ₹35000 and felt proud of myself. While the picture quality was great, I couldn’t hear anything if the chimney in the kitchen was turned on. The sound quality sucked. It took me 4 years to eat humble pie and buy a sound box.
I also learnt that you can’t research everything. I didn’t think that sound quality mattered until I actually experienced bad sound quality.
If you want to buy something and don’t have the time to research something thoroughly, always buy the most expensive thing that you think you can afford. A higher price is a signal of better quality, more features and a better experience. I bought an iPhone after many years of using clunky and cheaper Android phones . I will never go to a cheap phone again. Our middle class brains make us optimise for lower price but usually the extra cash saved is not worth the degradation in experience.
