I have been a fan of Ruby on Rails for a while and when DHH released Omarchy, I had to try it out.
The install was quite easy by Linux standards. It took me some time to figure out the Bios settings for dual boot but it was nothing that ChatGPT couldn’t handle.
The actual install was two minutes and 35 seconds. I had one hiccup though. The wifi adapter was not working. This brought back old traumas of hand installing drivers for Linux. Thankfully an accidental reboot fixed it (When in trouble always reboot first).
I had to read up the Omarchy manual to get my head around tiling window managers. The killer feature for me is how you can use agents for a lot things that were hard with Linux in the old days. My external monitor wasn’t working with my USB C dongle. The agent diagnosed it as one USB C port being broken and asked me to use another one. I wanted a custom config for how Hyprland lays out windows. I just asked the agent and it did it. I now use Chezmoi to check in all my customizations into Git. Another pleasant surprise for me was how awesome Steam works on Linux. I can play all my Windows games and some games that were broken on Windows are now working on Linux. Gaming was the only thing keeping me on Windows but now that myth is also broken.
